01 · Connection
Connect your Luna Ultra.
OpenInstaCine finds the camera over Bluetooth, asks it for approval, then hands off to the camera's own Wi-Fi for live view and control.
First pair
- Close the Insta360 appForce quit it so it does not hold the camera, then power on the Luna.
- Pair from the start screenAllow Bluetooth when your phone asks.
- Approve on the cameraThe first connection asks you to approve the phone on the camera's touchscreen.
- Join camera Wi-FiAllow the Wi-Fi join and Local Network access when asked.
- Live viewThe feed starts and the camera is saved for next time.
Returning to set
Saved cameras appear on the home screen. Tap one to reconnect. The app uses Bluetooth first when the camera is advertising, and the saved Wi-Fi otherwise.
The camera Wi-Fi password is stored in the iOS Keychain (Android Keystore on Android) on this phone only.
02 · Monitor and control
See the feed. Run the camera.
The Luna sends a 720p HEVC preview at 25 fps. The monitor, readouts, and controls sit around it.
What you see and control
- REC / STBY and time-of-day timecode. The app sets the camera clock when it connects, so both show the same time.
- ISO, shutter, white balance, EV, format, color mode (Standard, I-Log, Dolby Vision), zoom to 15×, and AF-S / AF-C / Product Showcase.
- METER switches between Matrix and Face Priority.
- DISP cycles chrome. Lock prevents accidental taps.
Gimbal and tracking
- On-screen stick or a game controller, gimbal modes and speed, Recenter, and double-tap Level.
- Motion Control moves between points A, B and C.
- Double-tap the picture, draw a box, or tap a face box to start Deep Track.
- Long-press the focus box to lock it so a stray tap cannot move it.
- AirPods head tracking aims the gimbal on iPhone and iPad.
03 · View assists
Build the monitor you need.
Tap an assist to toggle it. Long-press a tool to open its configuration. Assists run on the phone and do not change the file on the camera.
Focus
Focus peaking with adjustable sensitivity and color.
Framing
Grids, aspect guides, and a center crosshair, in landscape and portrait.
LUT preview
The official Insta360 I-Log to Rec.709 look, built-in looks, and imported .cube files.
Mirror
Flip the monitor image when the phone faces you.
Playback
Browse clips on the camera, star keepers, delete bad takes, and play the .lrv proxy with the same assists.
Settings
Tune OpenInstaCine for the operator.
Link
Check the connection, disconnect, or return to saved cameras.
View Assist
Configure tools and arrange the assist toolbar for the job.
Display
Keep the screen awake. Cycle DISP for a cleaner image.
Storage
See and clear the local cache of clips opened from the camera.
System
Report a problem, automatic error reports, licenses, NOTICE, privacy, and terms.
04 · Troubleshooting
Start with the signal closest to the problem.
The camera does not appear
Power the Luna on, stay close, and allow Bluetooth. Force quit the Insta360 app first so it does not hold the camera.
Pairing stops at approval
The first connection needs you to approve the phone on the camera's touchscreen. Look for the prompt on the camera and accept it.
Wi-Fi join never finishes
Approve the prompt to join the camera's Wi-Fi and allow Local Network access, which live view and control need. The app keeps retrying the join for a while. The Luna only connects over its own Wi-Fi: router and hotspot setups are not supported.
Live view stalls or never starts
Move closer to the camera, confirm you are on the camera Wi-Fi, and reconnect.
Local VPNs and ad blockers can join the camera Wi-Fi and still block local traffic to the camera. Pause the filter or exclude OpenInstaCine, then try again.
A setting will not change
Camera control is reverse-engineered and can be incomplete. Confirm record, exposure, and media on the camera body until you trust the link. Audio is set on the camera's own screen, and the lens has a fixed aperture, so neither appears in the app.
Android
The Android app shares the monitor, assists, and camera control with iPhone and iPad and is still being tested. AirPods head tracking, sharing the live picture, and Frame.io upload are iPhone and iPad only for now.
Sending a report
Use Report a problem in Settings, System. You choose what to include, and nothing is sent until you tap Send report. See the privacy policy for what a report contains.
